Reflecting on 2014

2014 has been quite the ride. At the very end of 2013 we found out we were expecting our second child when Everett was just four months old.

A few months later we found out that Everett was having a little brother

Reid 3

and Dustin and I reached the marriage milestone of five years.

But the first half of 2014 was spent raising a growing baby while having a growing baby bump.

Everett came with me to every doctor’s appointment with me and he did great! I was so proud of him.

He kept us busy and entertained with all his milestone reaching and cuteness. He went from scooting to crawling to walking.

He had many firsts one of them being his very first ice cream cone.

His obsession with anything long and skinny was discovered when his Mimi let him play with a pink fly swatter. That was his favorite toy for the longest time!

And he managed to keep up with all the baby preparing going on though he did get a little confused at times about which things were for which baby.

Then our special little boy turned one and we celebrated his first birthday with a party of three at home

and then with a safari celebration with friends and family.

Eight days later we became a family of four when we welcomed Reid Harrison into the world and slowly began adjusting to our new family life.

But before Everett turned one and Reid was born Dustin started a new job in July. Two weeks after Reid was born Dustin went on his first work trip for two weeks to California. That was the craziest two weeks ever. I had just given birth, had a two week old and a twelve month old. I was exhausted, missed Dustin like crazy and was trying to keep afloat. Thankfully my mom was with us though I learned you never know what you can do until you have to do it.

A lesson I was very glad to be over when we picked up Dustin from the airport! It’s funny how hard that first trip was. The trips still aren’t fun, we miss Dustin and he misses us but we know we can get through it now. That first trip I wasn’t so sure we could.

But despite all that we’ve had fun watching Everett adjust to Reid and their relationship grow.

This is the first picture of Everett with Reid and one of my favorites but I have just a few more…

And the year ended with fun in the fall,

enjoying Thanksgiving,

and Christmas.

It’s been a great year. We’ve watched our little man Everett grow and change, had our second little man Reid who has been another little blessing and Dustin’s new job has also been a blessing. And with all of the changes and adjustment this year has brought we’ve done a lot of growing, a lot of learning,  a lot of figuring things out and managing. There have been many times of being stressed out, overwhelmed and quite frankly scared but through it all God has again and again proven Himself faithful and shown up as our friend, counselor and provider and given us much needed peace and strength. There’s no doubt about it, 2014 has been a pretty good year filled with a lot of laughter, a lot of joy and a whole lot of love.
