For now though it is our responsibility to show him the way. Our Pastor, who also happens to be Dustin’s father, preached the dedication message. He spoke about this awesome responsibility and privilege of giving your children to Lord not just on Sundays but every day by not just teaching them the Word of God but showing them the Word of God by living it ourselves. Reid, who truly is a bouncing baby boy, could not keep still during this time. He did not want to sit and so he bounced through most of the message.
Afterwards surrounded by our families and our church family Dustin and I were prayed for, that we would be given the wisdom and guidance to direct Reid’s life and the patience and love to see him through the years ahead.
And then Reid was prayed for, that a hedge of protection would be placed around him and that God would keep him and draw on his heart as he grows. Reid during this time was much more fascinated with grabbing his Papa’s face. He is a very inquisitive little thing!
I said this during Everett’s dedication but I still feel the same, especially after now being eighteen months into raising one, and that is I am thankful for the many godly and wonderful mentors and influences that have been placed in our lives. There is so much more to raising a child than it appears when you are struck with baby fever but with the help of God and the experiences of those said individuals it has made the choppy waters of child rearing a little easier to navigate.
And I am very thankful that God chose us to be the parents of Reid Harrison. He’s our active, curious, determined and sweet boy that we are so blessed to be able to love and raise and I am thankful God allowed us to be the ones to call him son.
