A Day of Love - Valentine's Day 2014

Growing up my favorite holiday was Valentine's Day. Not because I had a boyfriend or was caught up in the romance of it all but because my mom made it so very special. She would decorate the table, make a nice meal and give each of us a small gift and a card. I loved this holiday because I felt so loved and special and it was all about returning that love. It was the same way for Dustin growing up. So it was definitely a holiday that I wanted to claim as our own and continue on the tradition in our own little family.

I'm not super creative when it comes to decorating but I decorated our dining room table, set it with Everett and Dustin's cards and gifts. I made chocolate covered strawberries and prepared more strawberries for strawberry shortcake. When Dustin got home we made dinner together, he made steak and I made roasted baby red potatoes, salad and a vegetable and topped it off with sparkling cider.

We ate dinner, read our cards and pigged out on the strawberries and Valentine candy. Though it was very low-key it was one of the best Valentine's Days we've ever had. It was relaxing and so nice to just spend the time together as a family.

I am looking forward to each Valentine's Day we have together and I hope it creates the same fond memories for our kids that Dustin and I had growing up.
